Oriental Beauty is a tea that you cannot classify nor define. So named by the Queen of England, this tea is one of the three most significant oolong teas of Taiwan along with Alpine Oolong and Dong Ding Oolong. Oriental Beauty is only produced in limited quantities because we only use those tea leaves that have been bitten by the tea leafhopper. Making its home solely in Taiwan’s warmer climates, this insect is crucial to the cultivation of this gourmet tea. The tea leaf hopper consumes the liquid inside the tea leaf altering its natural chemical composition and flavor. The tea is then heavily oxidized, which gives it sharp notes of ripe, fruit flavor and a rich, warm honey aftertaste. Oriental beauty tea is sometimes referred to as “Champagne Oolong” in an effort to describe its complexity.
